A leading manufacturing company had immediate requirements to expand their existing sales order processing systems. The current system was heavily used and had expanded in terms of table size and storage space requirements. The IT department needed a sales data reporting solution running simultaneously with the sales order-processing module.

A consultant from Team PRONTO was sent to analyze and provide a synopsis for the client as follows:

	The Sales Order System had become so huge that the size of the order number had to be increased from 6 digits to 7 digits to allow the system to accept new order numbers
	Due to the need for management to obtain periodic sales reports, so as to be able to analyze current company performance and to forecast future sales, the data of the last 5 years made on the Sales Order System had to be kept online
	There was also the requirement to allow for all commissions to be paid promptly to all sales representative based on sales and profits

To solve management and systems performance issues a separate data warehousing systems was created on a new machine.

The master data was replicated through a data-warehousing machine, which runs a batch process every night. A Baan data extraction process extracts daily sales data from the sales table and populates a sales warehouse table. The sales warehouse table is used for sales reporting where an average of 20 sales reports are processed daily. In addition a separate module for the commissions was developed for commission payment.

The Sales Order System is currently live and performance has greatly been improved. It also provides crucial decision-making statistics to executive management of the organization.
